Painting Techniques

NOTE: BC means Basecoat; DB means drybrush;

HL means Highlight; PB means Pat Back with dry paper towel;

WB means Wipe Back with #760 Antique Media;

Spray means spray with #761 Perfect Matte Spray.

 

Apply glaze under-scales, claws, spine, wing spines, edge of ears & nostrils. Fire at 04. Apply fired gold to the same areas under-scales, put fired white gold on them, fire per manufacturer’s instructions. BC remainder of dragon with #750 Bisque Primer. Antique with #740 Walnut, WB. Wipe cloud back to white. Paint dragon skin & back of wings #711 Sapphire, PB, HL with #760 Antique Media & #713 Primrose, shadow with #701 Black. DB wing fronts with #711 sapphire, #712 Amethyst & #713 Primrose, blend with #760 Antique Media. Blush Cloud with #700 White & #711Sapphire & #713Primrose, HL #700 White. Spray. Glue small jewels in eyes.

Non-fire option: paint dragon according to the instructions after BC, then paint #972 Silver where the fired white gold goes and # 975 Brilliant Gold were the fired gold goes.

Apply glaze to claws, spine, ears, beard and fin spines. Fire at 04. Apply fired gold to the same areas, fire per manufacturer’s instructions. BC remainder of dragon with #750 Bisque Primer. Antique with #740 Walnut, WB. Paint scaly skin #714 Teal, PB, HL # 711 Sapphire, shadow with #701 Black. Paint under-scales & fins with #712 Amethyst, PB, HL with #713 Primrose, Shade with #711 Sapphire. Rouge cheeks with #713 Primrose. Spray. Glue small jewels in eyes.

Non-fire option: paint dragon according to the instructions after BC, then paint # 975 Brilliant Gold were the fired gold goes.

Apply glaze to the ridges of the under-scales, toe ridges & claws, edge of ears & nostrils. Fire at 04. Apply fired gold to claws, edge of ears & nostrils, put fired white gold on the ridges of the under-scales & toe ridges, fire per manufacturer’s instructions. BC remainder of dragon with #750 Bisque Primer. Antique with mixture of #740 Walnut & #701 Black, WB. Apply #700 White & #701 Black to rock skin, WB, HL sporadically with #713 Primrose, #711 Sapphire, #712 Amethyst # 709 Topaz. Shadow with #701 Black. Paint under-scales with #709 Topaz, HL #710 Sunshine & #978 MidasTouch, Shadow #701 Black. Apply # 712 Amethyst to base of spine crystals and #713 primrose to the top of the crystals, Blend with #760 Antique Media, HL With #978 Midas Touch. Apply #703 Spiced Brown to Ground PB, HL with #707 Evergreen & #710 Sunshine, Shade with #740 Walnut. Paint leaves #707 Evergreen & #708 Emerald, WB, HL with #710 Sunshine. Spray. Glue small jewels in eyes.

Non-fire option: paint dragon according to the instructions after BC, then paint #972 Silver where the fired white gold goes and # 975 Brilliant Gold were the fired gold goes.

 

Apply glaze to Chest plates, claws, wing spines, edge of ears & nostrils. Fire at 04. Apply fired white gold to the chest plates and paint the other areas with fired white gold, fire per manufacturer’s instructions. BC remainder of dragon with #750 Bisque Primer. Antique with #740 Walnut, WB. Paint skin #715 Burgundy, WB, HL #705 Ruby & #706 Tangerine, Shadow #701 Black & #711 Sapphire. Paint base of fire #706 Tangerine & #712 Amethyst. Paint tips of fire #710 Sunshine, blend with #760 Antique Media. Paint under-scales #709 Topaz, PB, HL # 710 Sunshine, Shadow #712 Amethyst. Paint Top of wings # 712 Amethyst & #705 Ruby, blend with #760 Antique Media. Paint bottom of wings with #706 Tangerine, #705 Ruby & #710 Sunshine, blend with #760 Antique Media. Paint coals #706 Tangerine PB, Shade with #701 Black. Spray. Glue small jewels in eyes.

Non-fire option: paint dragon according to the instructions after BC, then paint #972 Silver where the fired white gold goes and # 975 Brilliant Gold were the fired gold goes.

BC with #750 Bisque Primer. Antique with #704 Taupe & #701 Black, WB. Wipe clouds & unicorn back to white. Paint background #709 Topaz, WB, HL sky near castle with #710 Sunshine. HL edge of sky #704 Tangerine, #713 Primrose & # 711 Sapphire. HL Clouds # 711 Sapphire & # 712 Amethyst. Paint unicorn #1005 Shimmering Blue, WB, Shadow #701 Black, HL #711 Sapphire. Paint Eye #900 White, Iris #925 Medium Blue & Pupil & Lash # 902 Black. Rouge Nostrils #713 Primrose. Paint Grass # 707 Evergreen, PB, HL #710 Sunshine. Paint ground # 702 Walnut, PB. Shadow with #701 Black. Paint castle mixture #700 White, #701 Black & #711 Sapphire. Spray. Paint Horn, Hooves & castle windows #975 Brilliant Gold Paint streaks in mane, tail & fetlocks with #972 Silver. Hair spray & sprinkle with #977 Ultra Glitz.

on Air Brush Mane, Tail & Fetlocks #E1045 Duncan Peaches & Cream (or the color of your choice) fire to 04. Glaze piece with Duncan Dippng Glaze #GL612D Fire to 06 cone Apply Luster to mane, tail & fetlocks. Apply fired Gold to Horn & Hooves. Fire per manufacturers specifications.

BC all with #750 Bisque Primer. Antique all pieces with mixture of #700 White & #701 Black, WB. Wipe unicorns back to white. SHADE, BOOK & LID- Apply #712 Amethyst, #711 Sapphire & # 713 Primrose to background, blend with #760 Antique Media. HL unicorns with #700 White. HL mane tail & Fetlocks with #711 Sapphire & #713 Primrose. Paint Eye #900 White, Iris #925 Medium Blue & Pupil & Lash # 902 Black. DB #978 Midas Touch on page edges & corners. Spray. Paint Stars 972 Silver. Paint binding, horn, hooves & moon #975 Brilliant Gold. STONE BASE- Rouge stone with #704 Taupe, HL #712 Amethyst & #711 Sapphire, blend with #760 Antique Media. Shadow with #701 Black. Apply #707 Evergreen & #708 Emerald to moss, PB, HL #710 Sunshine. Spray.

BC all with #750 Bisque Primer. Antique all pieces with mixture of #700 White & #701 Black, WB with #760 Antique Media. Wipe some stones back lighter than others. Paint castle & Base rocks # 704 Taupe, # 740 Walnut & #711 Sapphire, Blend with #760 Antique Media, shadow #701 Black. Paint Stucco & gate #709 Topaz, #704 Tangerine & #740 Walnut, blend with #760 Antique Media. Paint roof #711 Sapphire, PB, Shadow # 701 Black. Spray.
