CPI-206 Painting Techniques

NOTE:  BC means Basecoat; DB means drybrush: HL means Highlight; WB means wipe back using #760 Antique Media; PB means Pat Back with soft cloth.  Spray means spray with #761 Perfect Matte Spray. NOTE: Always refer to picture for placement of colors.  NOTE: Materials needed to finish a piece are highlighted in bold print the first time they are used.
 
Glazed Pieces: Begin with properly fired cone 04 bisque. Paint as directed. Allow to dry completely. Fire to shelf cone 06.
Tiki’s & Watering Can. Pour SC-210 Roll-A-Coat inside the all pieces and roll around until the inside is covered.  Pour out excess &  turn the piece upside down until glaze has lost the shiny look. Wipe off excess glaze with moist sponge.
 
3027 Three Finials 6”/8”/10”
Apply 2 coats of PC-501 Terra Cotta Pottery Coat.  Apply 2 coats AC-302 Wax Resist to desired designs and bands between sections. Scrunch up some plastic wrap and pounce AC-302 Wax Resist onto to lower edge of Mushroom caps.  To alternating sections, apply 3 coats of EL-105 River Birch & EL-106 Tidal pool. Apply one coat of PC-602 White Cascade around top edge of each section.

BC 25/75 mixture of #941 Light Terra & #951 Navajo. Antique angel a mixture of watered down #918 Forest green & #709 Topaz, wiping back as you go. HL #709 Topaz. Splatter watered down #900 White. SPRAY.

Apply 2 coats of PC-501 Terra Cotta Pottery Coat. Apply 3 coats SC-15 Tuxedo to eyes. Apply 2 coats AC-302 Wax Resist waddle, comb, beak, eyes & feet. Scrunch up some plastic wrap and pounce AC-302 Wax Resist onto to handle.  Apply 3 coats EL-207 Gold Mine to handle & body. Apply 3 coats EL-Moss Creek to head & wings. Apply 3 coats EL-209 Night Sky to Tail feathers. Apply 1 coat PC-602 White Cascade around top edge of opening.

3766 Mushroom Tiki Stem
Apply 2 coats of PC-502 Speckled Buff Pottery Coat to underside of cap & stem base. Apply 2 coats of PC-501 Terra Cotta Pottery Coat to topside of cap & stem neck. Paint lines on underside PC-501 Terra Cotta Pottery Coat. Apply 2 coats AC-302 Wax Resist to underside of mushroom cap, bottom of stem neck & top of stem base. Scrunch up some plastic wrap & pounce AC-302 Wax Resist onto to lower edge of Mushroom cap, stem neck & stem base. Apply 3 coats of EL-207 Gold Mine to top of cap & stem neck. Apply 3 coats of EL-107 Amber Ash to bottom of stem base.
 
3767 Frog Tiki 6.75
Apply 2 coats of PC-501 Terra Cotta Pottery Coat to frog. Apply 3 coats SC-16 Cotton Tail to eyes. Dot and line eyes SC-15 Tuxedo. Line mouth & dot nostrils SC-34 Down To Earth. Apply 2 coats AC-302 Wax Resist over eyes, nostrils & mouth. Apply 3 coats of S-2591 New Leaf S-2564 Sun Yellow mixture to the frog. While 3rd coat is still wet, spray diluted SC-34 Down To Earth onto the wet glaze. Use small spritzer water bottle.  Float SC-26 Green Thumb around arms, legs & chin.  Apply 3 coats SC-74 Hot Tomale to center of Crown. Apply 3 coats. SC-24 Dandelion to crown. Line SC-15 Tuxedo.

Exotic Glaze Method: Draw a swooping line around mushroom cap. Apply 3 coats of CG-795 Yadro Print below line. Apply 3 coats of CG-765 Cinnamon Toast above line. 
Pottery Glaze Method: Apply two coats of PC-501 Terra Cotta Pottery Coat to Mushroom caps and Stems. Scrunch up some plastic wrap and pounce AC-302 Wax Resist onto to lower edge of Mushroom caps. Apply three coats EL-Moss Creek to cap.

Exotic Glaze Method: Apply 3 coats of CG-775 Fox Fire to the medium mushroom cap.  Apply 3 coats of CG-703 Tropical Feathers to the small mushroom cap. 
Pottery Glaze Method: Apply 2 coats of PC-501 Terra Cotta Pottery Coat to Mushroom caps and Stems. Scrunch up some plastic wrap and pounce AC-302 Wax Resist onto to lower edge of Mushroom caps. Apply 3 coats EL-207 Gold Mine to medium cap. Apply 3 coats EL-209 Night Sky to small cap.
