Painting Techniques for CPI-210
NOTES for non-fired finishing:  BC means Basecoat; DB means drybrush: HL means Highlight; WB means wipe back using #760 Antique Media; PB means Pat Back with soft cloth.  Spray means spray with #761 Perfect Matte Spray.  NOTE: Always refer to picture for placement of colors.  NOTE: Materials needed to finish a piece are highlighted in bold print the first time they are used.
NOTES for glazed finishing: Fire bisque to cone 04.  Antique means Apply one coat & wipe back with a clean wet sponge, leaving color primarily only in the creases & detail areas. HL means highlight with a light coat of specified color to raised areas. Float means apply thinned specified color to recessed areas using a square shader with color on half of the brush. Finish means, after piece is completely dry, apply clear glaze of choice according to manufacturers instruction & fire to cone 06.

Antique magic rug & cloud: SC-13 Grapel. Antique Hair & Skin: SC-41 Brown Cow, Antique the rest: SC-18 Rosie Posie. Hair: Apply 3 coats SC-51 Rawhide. Float streaks of SC-48 Camel Back to deep areas in the hair & SC-54 Vanilla Dip to high areas. Skin: Apply 3 coats SC-30 Birthday Suit. Apply watered down SC-21 Sunburn all over flesh areas. Blush cheeks & Lips SC-18 Rosey Posey Line crease in mouth SC-3 Wine About It. Paint eyes SC-16 Cotton Tail, SC-7 Leaping Lizard, SC-8 Just Froggy & SC-15 Tuxedo Eyebrows SC-48 Camel Back. Top, hip band, top triangles in headband & Shoes: Apply 3 coats SC-3 Wine About It. Bottom triangles in headband, Neckline & wristbands: Apply 3 coats SC-17 Cheeky Pink Scarf & pants: Apply 3 coats SC-1 Pink-A-Boo. Float  SC-70 Pink-A-Dot in deep areas and along bottom edge of pants. Magic rug: Apply 3 coats SC-13 Grapel, SC-11 Blue Yonder & SC-12 Moody Blue. Paint designs & fringe with two coats of SC-Dandelion & SC-13 Grapel. Clouds: Float SC-65 Peritwinkle into deep areas. Float SC-30 Blue Dawn around edges. HL SC-16 Cotton Tail. FINISH.

Dress: Apply 3 coats SC-11 Blue Yonder. Float SC-13 Grapel to bottom edge & just above waistline. HL SC-30 Blue Dawn.  Flower: Apply 3 coats SC-70 Pink-A-Dot. Float SC-18 Rosie Posie to edges. Apply 3 coats of SC-Dandelion to centers. HL SC-6 Sunkissed. Glaze petal trim with three coats SC-16 Cotton Tail & SC-18 Rosie Posie. Wings: Apply 3 coats SP-30 Blue Dawn. Glaze Spot & Stripes withSC-13 Grapel SP-15 Tuxedo & SC-16 Cotton Tail. FINISH.

Fire all pieces to cone 04 bisque. Glaze with three coats SC-15 Tuxedo: underside of lid, inside of dip bowl, outside rim, alternating squares & sections of chip plate, both inside & outsides edges of the Spade & Club Trays and club & spade.  Glaze with three coats of SC-74 Hot Tomal: alternating squares & sections of of chip plate. both inside & outsides edges of the Heart & Diamond Trays  & heart, diamond & A’s Allow pieces to dry completely between coats.
Glaze spindle and all gold areas with SC-24 Dandelion (as pictured). Dip with clear glaze of your choice. Step 3: Fire to #06 cone. Glaze spindle and all gold areas Bright Gold. Fire to #18 Cone.

Base: Apply three coats of EL 106 Tidal Pool.
White Bunnies: Apply three coats of PC-501 Terra Cotta. Apply Wax Resist to feet & inside of ears. Apply 3 coats S 2565 Cloud White. Paint radishes SC-18 Rosey Posie. Paint Leaves SC-39 Army Surplus. Paint flower SC-30 Blue Dawn. Outline flower & radishes & paint eyes & mouth with SC-15 Tuxedo.  Natural Bunnies: Fire bisque to witness cone 04. Apply 2 coats 50/50 mixture of PC-503 Khaki Pottery Coat & PC-502 Speckled Buff Pottery Coat. Dry. Apply OS1 Mirror Black to eyes. Apply Wax Resist to faces & feet. Apply watered down OS8 Briar Wood to front paw & ears. Apply SC-18 Rosey Posey to inside of ears & nose. Paint Flower OS-147 Powder Blue. Paint radishes 0S-3 Lip Red. Paint Stems & leaves OS-41 Real Holly Leaves. Cover these areas with 2 coats of S-2000 Natural Claze. Apply 3 coats S-2566 Almond to the rest. Dry. Apply 2 coats PC-601 Clear Cascade to almond coated areas. Fire to witness cone 06.

Italian Design: Apply three coats of S-2566 Almond Apply one coat of thinned SC-27 Sour Apple and SC-5 Tiger Tail randomly. While the third coat is still wet on the plates, spray very diluted SC-34 Down To Earth onto the wet glaze.  Use a small spritzer water bottle. After thoroughly drying draw on design. Apply SC-39 Army Surplus to leaves; tip in SC-63 Popeye’s Favorite, stroke in leaves, applying two coats. For olives, use same brush and load in SC-15 Tuxedo and tip brush with SC-71 Purple-licious, applying one coat.  Apply two coats SC-39 Army Surplus and two coats SC-16 Cottontail to crust edge.  Outline leaves, stems and lines on crust edge with SC-15 Tuxedo. Finish.
Pizza Night Design: Glazed with three coats of SC-55 Yella Bout It, SC-46 Rawhide, SC-30 Blue Dawn. Trim, letters & designs done with OS-1 Mirror Black. Finish.

BC #750 Bisque Primer. Antique #719 Ebony. WB. Wipe sky & buildings back to white. Apply a mixture of #713 Primrose & #704 Taupe to lower part of sky. Apply a mixture of #711 Sapphire & #700 White to top area of sky. Blend the top and bottom of the sky together with a brush. Lightly pounce #700 White on the sky as clouds. HL some of the clouds with a small amount of #710 Sunshine. Rouge rocks with #718  Amber to highlight. Apply #901 Black to creases of rocks. Apply #707 Evergreen to grass and trees. HL grass #710 Sunshine. HL trees #708 Emerald. Apply #714 Teal to water. HL water edges #700 White. Pounce some #700 White up on the cliffs as sea spray. Apply #715 Burgundy to building roof. Apply #711 Sapphire to lighthouse roof. Paint stripes on lighthouse #701 Black, PB. HL Light house with #710 Sunshine. Make beams coming from light with #710 Sunshine & #700 White. Apply #701 Black to house door. Apply #710 Sunshine to all windows. Apply #700 White to fence. Spray and paint lettering with 902 Black.

BC three coats of #750 Bisque Primer to all pieces. Antique #717 Mushroom, WB. Wipe word area back a little lighter. Apply #704 Taupe to rocks, PB. Rouge #715 Burgundy , #711 Sapphire & #714 Teal. Lightly blend with #763 Antique Media. Apply #740 Walnut to log, PB. HL #709 Topaz.  Apply #715 Burgundy to fern & vine stems, PB. Rouge #712 Amethyst & #713 Primrose. Apply #707 Evergreen to leaves, PB. Rouge vine leaf centers #715 Burgundy . Highlight green leaves #710 Sunshine.  Apply #701 Black to turtles, WB. Apply Evergreen to Shell. HL #710 Sunshine. Apply mixture of #710 Sunshine & #707 Evergreen to turtle Skin. HL with mixture of #700 White, #710 Sunshine & #707 Evergreen. Paint an X with a line thru the middle on shell sections  #931 Medium Yellow. Paint eyes with #900 White & #902 Black. Paint claws #901 Bone. Apply #704 Taupe to mushrooms. Rouge tops #706 Tangerine & Edges #705 Ruby. Dot #900 White.  Paint ladybug #910 Scarlet Red & #902 Black. Shade all deep areas with #701 Black.  Paint letters #902 Black.  Apply #714 Teal to inside of pod and wipe back with antique media and a soft cloth.  Spray thoroughly inside & out to waterproof. After thoroughly drying, run tube through hole in the back of turtle rock to the hole in the top; glue inside with glue gun. Attach pump outside of the turtle rock (in the back) with glue gun.  We used an amber light in a clip light fixture to light up the inside.
